The housing crisis is seen as a pressing issue affecting health, well-being, and economic disparity, with 82% expressing concern over its broader societal impacts. Younger Canadians are particularly affected, facing greater challenges in achieving housing security and stability.

The scarcity of affordable housing is eroding the middle class and forcing many to make tough choices, such as sacrificing essentials to meet housing costs. Over half of Canadians report such financial struggles, while 41% say the stress of not being able to buy a home is overwhelming. Younger generations are delaying major life milestones like starting families, and a significant portion are even considering moving abroad to find affordable housing, highlighting a deep societal shift.

Canadians overwhelmingly value homeownership for its stability and long-term benefits, yet skepticism remains about political solutions. While 75% believe housing policy should unite political parties, 68% doubt the government’s ability to meet its ambitious housing targets. Habitat for Humanity Canada calls for comprehensive policy changes to make homeownership accessible, emphasizing its transformative effects on families and communities.
